Sept. 7, 2011, 12:27 p.m. EDT. CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- A group of 33 Illinois lawmakers are in Havana Wednesday as part of an effort to push the U.S. government to ease restrictions that hamper bilateral trade and hurt the state's agricultural sector, AFP reports.

The trip comes ahead of the first direct flight from Chicago to Havana on Oct. 28. Cuba is Illinois's fifth largest trading partner, with estimated trade at $700 million annually, most of it in agricultural products, the news agency noted. The delegation will be in Cuba through Sept. 12 and will meet with various foreign affairs, medical and cultural officials.
