2011.08.31 - 13:45:42 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. HAVANA, CUBA.-  A national seminar about a Cuban project for strengthening food innocuousness policies will take place in Havana with experts from the island and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization in attendance.

Beginning Tuesday at the Gelabert Hall of the Habana Riviera Hotel, the seminar will be the framework for the presentation of a plan of action to strengthen the nutrient management capacity, Caridad Hernandez, from the National Institute for Normalization Research told ACN.

Hernandez said the objective of the seminar is to reach an agreement regarding the Plan of Action, for which the highest relevant authorities involved in the project are required to participate. The initiative, she added, seeks to demonstrate the harmlessness and quality of foodstuffs.

Loliet Fernandez Alvarez, from FAO’s office in Havana, told ACN the project was signed in September, 2010. She said FAO's office is currently preparing a film with interviews and other initiatives to support the project.

Fernandez Alvarez said Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay have developed similar plans.(ACN)
