2011.08.29 - 10:15:00 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu / Bufalina Buffalo Breed Developed in MayabequeMayabeque, Cuba.-  Feeling sure that the Bufalina breed is the most efficient of its kind in the meat and milk production, cattle farmers of the 085 farm, located in Güines municipality, are becoming a national reference in the buffalo breeding development in Cuba.

With only 9 months working on the aforementioned breeding specie, Jorge Cuervo, director of the farm, highlighted, “this is the breed for the future, I have a double responsibility not only as a representative of the farm but also in view of the commitment to develop the new breed of buffalo in order to guarantee the food supply for the population which is a task successfully accomplished nowadays.”

With the above mentioned purpose, Yoendri Hernández and Yunier Gómez Mederos are also working with me in the 085 farm that belongs to the El Cangre Bufalina Cattle Genetic enterprise, Cuervo added.

“We are a team that has worked for over 20 years in the breeding cattle and only a 9 months period with the buffalo which has been useful for us to get to know even deeper a specie that served as an important alternative to obtain meat and milk.

Moreover, when we were given the task to substitute the traditional cattle for the one made of buffalo, we thought it carefully taking into account that we knew about its strength and aggressiveness. However, we think quite different on the issue nowadays when we already have 60 animals in different stages of growing and we feel proud of their strength, food vitality, health and their meat and milk productions.Translated by: Juan Carlos Caballero Puig
