2011.08.28 - 12:50:05 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu / National Group of Taxis Applies New Renting System.Havana, Cuba.- The number one taxis-renting agency in Havana province shows an excellent performance in the quality of the service which is currently directed towards the international tourism.

The new renting system was implemented last year in a fleet of 30 taxis and generated over a million of local convertible pesos at a total cost of 64 cents per peso. Moreover, there are 10 agencies nationwide where a similar system will be implemented.

The aforementioned system enabled to increase up to 50 times more the productivity in comparison to other taxis agencies that has not implemented yet the renting model.

Meanwhile, working illegalities decreased and drivers paid their taxes and contribution in relation to their incomes towards the social security.

Given the positive results obtained the taxis agency number one, it was decided to create a second one with 40 vehicles in which drivers are integrated to the new legislation recently approved about the self-employment system. Besides, the Ministry of Transportation (MITRANS) is studying other renting models such as the renting of some facilities in the capital city for tire pumps, washing car service, electric repair; and car maintenance services that will be used by self-employed workers as soon as the project could be approved and put into effect.

Likewise, the MITRANS is studying the possibility to apply another renting model devised for Havana-based bus stations with the purpose of increasing the incomes and taxes collection as well as the maintenance and proper usage of its vehicles.

Another renting system still in progress is related to the selling of tickets in the travel agencies which will reduce and improve the paperwork and capacities offered by the local Astro Transportation agency. By Hilia Tamayo Batista and Translated by: Juan Carlos Caballero Puig
