HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 18 (acn) The Ricardo Palma University of Peru acknowledged outgoing Cuban ambassador in Lima Luis Delfin Perez for his work as head of the diplomatic mission in the Andean country for the last five years.

Rector Ivan Rodriguez awarded the Cuban ambassador with the Ricardo Palma Medal which is granted to outstanding personalities, PL news agency reported.

Rodriguez commended Delfin Perez' professional work and personal values noting that he contributed to fostering cooperation actions between Cuba and Peru,including a course taught by Cuban academicians in the Peruvian university.

The Ricardo Palma University was the first institution of the country to open its doors to the Cuban diplomat for a lecture in 2006.

In the meeting, attended by ambassadors from other Latin American nations,academicians, writers, social and political leaders, among other personalities,Delfin Perez said the current context was favorable for the steady development of relations between both countries.

In July, Peru's President elect Ollanta Humala visited Cuba and met with Cuban President Raul Castro. In that meeting, both government leaders expressed their interest in strengthening bonds between the two countries.

Cuba and Peru maintain cooperation relations in the sectors of health, education
and sports, among others.
