By: Raquel Maria Garcia Alvarez.00:07Caracas, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) As part of its plan to increase people's access to telecommunication services, the Venezuelan Government has started to operate a new line of production of Orinoquia cell phones.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Science, Technology and Intermediate Industries Ricardo Menendez on Monday during a visit to the Orinoquia Socialist Factory, in the Caracas-based La Carlota neighbourhood.

According to Menendez, the factory's target is to manufacture 806,000 units this year.

He recalled that the total was of 150,000 units when the production of these cell phones started, the first to be assembled in Venezuela along with the Vergatarios brand.

He said they are sold at affordable prices, 30-40 percent below those from other firms.

He said that they expect to produce 2 million cell phones by the end of the year, including over 800,000 from Orinoquia and 1.20 billion from Vtelca, the firm assembling the Vergatarios.
