Acting director Rene Rubio said the strategy followed by the company to increase its revenues consisted in making better use of the workforce without affecting the costumers, increasing the price of services and products, and reducing costs by two cents for every dollar produced.

Created on August 13, 1996 along with a workshop in the city of Camaguey, and one office in Havana, the firm is in charge of repairs of heavy machinery diesel engines and transmissions, and the bulk of its services are provided to the Ministry of Sugar, which holds 50% of the firm’s stocks.

Camaguey Diesel S.A also works for the mining industry, transportation, oil, construction and electricity generation and distribution.

Rubio said after the first seven months of the year Camagüey Diesel created values for $12.2 million, 71 percent of the plan for the year.

With around 80 workers on its payroll -15 of them founders-, the firm pays special attention to working conditions, including meals and tools and frequent training courses to update their knowledge about the latest developments introduced in the equipment.

Annually, around 300 engines of combine sugar cane harvesters, heavy tractors, loaders and trucks. “Complaints are less than one percent,” Rubio noted.

Logistics specialist Jesus Martin Aleman, of the Sugar Ministry, said that currently the quality of the works by the joint venture is good, and noted that the firm managed to solve problems years earlier in the delivery of the equipment sent to the workshop for repair.

The other half of Camagüey Diesel’s stocks is owned by the Canadian company Tokmakjian which has been in Cuba for about 20 years. (ACN)
