Pinar del Río, Cuba. - The incorporation of organic matter and nutrients as part of the preparation of soils constitutes one of the main actions carried out in Pinar del Río province in order achieve the proper development of the next tobacco harvest campaign.

Private and state tobacco producers prepare their soils in order to irrigate nurseries to guarantee the necessary seedling to achieve early harvests, thus obtaining better productive results.

Pinar del Rió´s WebPages highlights the hiring of the soils to be planted during the next tobacco harvest campaign in which is planed to sow up to 1300 hectares which is a number that ratifies Pinar del Río as the biggest tobacco producer territory in Cuba.

According to authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture, there will be a general usage of new technologies for tobacco farming such as the double line during the sow process, the obtaining of seedlings in modern flowerbeds, as well as the irrigation of seeds in order to increase its yields and reducing the costs.

These new technologies, which were applied in some areas during the previous harvest, made possible to obtain leaves of much better quality than those obtained by traditional methods.

Pinar del Río contributes with approximately 50% of the exportable leaves to be used in the elaboration of the famous cigars.
