The modern equipment allows irrigating the areas in the nursery according to the needs of the soil, shoots, and the seed´s varieties.
This equipment´s inversion also makes possible to prepare the seeds in order to warrantee the necessary raw material to be used in the next sugar harvests during which all sugar refineries, including the Panamá and the Vertientes ones, should be taking part, too.
Engineer and specialist of the GEA enterprise group, Efraín Otero, stated, “The big challenge is to achieve what is called as the certified seed, which is what express the result of the production, and what is sown. Besides, it is part of our commitment.”
“Efraín, added, “Taking into account that this type of seed represents the 30% of the sugar production in a plantation, there is already a design of the demand of this seed in Camagüey.”
“Camagüey, which is a sugar-growing territory, is working on the recovery of all its sugar cane nurseries in order to keep its basic, registered and certified seeds, the specialist, stated.”
“We expect to conclude this work with all our sugar cane nurseries properly registered by the upcoming month of August. Therefore, we are working on the basic seed in the EPICA (enterprise for studies on the Sugar Cane), located in the Florida municipality. Besides, this year we will be able to star the first steps of the studies with the certified seed to be finally developed by 2012.”
“Specialists from Camagüey, who have a two-year program of studies on the issue, should develop the different seeds that would allow having a warrantee about a seed´s structure that could protect the sugar plantations from the attacks of any disease. A variety of seeds that would offer us better productive results of the challenging sowing seasons we have in future.”
The sugar workers of our province have the challenge to produce three millions seven hundred thousand tons of sugar cane so that all our engineers could be ready by the end of the current five-year period.”
“This is the great goal that we have to deal with, and it is responsibility of the workers of the sphere.” engineer Efraín Otero, GEA specialist concluded. By Miozotis Fabelo Pinares and Translated by: Juan Carlos Caballero Puig
