By: Michel. miércoles, 27 de julio de 2011.Cienfuegos, Cuba, Jul 27 (Prensa Latina) Habanastation, the most recent production of the Cuban film industry, is playing to packed movie theaters and drawing applause at the end of every showing, as was the case last night at the Luisa cinema in this central Cuban city.

This first feature film by Ian Padron, currently being screened at a U.S. film festival in Traverse City, Michigan, is apparently on the road to becoming the movie event of the year in Cuba.

Filmgoers of all ages, but especially children and teenagers, enjoyed the film, which since Monday has been playing in 10 theaters in the Cuban capital and around 300 cinemas island-wide. Marcos Muñiz, a 70-year-old retiree and self-described movie buff, said he had not seen such a massive response to a movie in a long time, probably not since Strawberry and Chocolate, the only Cuban film nominated for an Oscar (1994).

Habanastation is a co-production of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), and the children's theater company La Colmenita, which provided the film's two co-stars, Andy Fornaris (Carlos) and Ernesto Escalona (Mayito).

In the film, two boys from two different social backgrounds go through an adventure, with friendship triumphing in the end.
