Cuba’s high court will rule in “coming days” on the appeal from US contractor Alan Gross, who was sentenced to 15 years in jail for illegally distributing Internet equipment, a government website said on Friday.

Gross, 62, was arrested in December 2009 for bringing satellite phones and equipment to the communist island’s Jewish community while working as an independent contractor for a USAID-funded democracy building program. The court said it will rule on his appeal “in the coming days.” Gross was sentenced to 15 years in prison on March 12 for “endangering the independence and security” of the Cuban state.
