2011.07.22 - 12:51:07 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu.HAVANA, CUBA.-  Cuban athletes won 17 gold medals on Thursday during the fourth day of competitions of the Fourth Games of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA Games), under way in several Venezuelan states, but still remained in the second spot of the medal standings of the multi-sport event attended by more than 2,000 athletes from 23 countries.

The competition is led by the host country with 62 crowns, 61 silver, and 37 bronze, for a total of 160 medals. Cuba places second (38-19-19-76) followed by Colombia (9-10-7-26) and Chile (6-2-0-8).

On Thursday, Cuba continued its dominance in the rowing tournament winning the five finals scheduled and also in weightlifting with crowns for Ivan Cambar and Bredni Roque.

The island’s representatives also won three titles in artistic gymnastics, three more in table tennis, and one in women’s wrestling. ACN
