2011.07.13 - 22:52:10 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Cuba Implements Certification on Construction Materials from Private Sector. Havana, Cuba.-  The Cuban Construction Ministry (MICONS by its Spanish acronym) started a process to certify construction materials like tiles, bricks and others produced by private entrepreneurs in order to guarantee safety in buildings.

A first sample of these materials carried out by MICONS specialists produced that most of the current output of small private producers don’t meet the standards set for the country.

According to Rubén Antonio Zamora, specialist at the Standardization Department of MICONS, the samples taken all over the country showed poor quality of those materials when taken to the laboratories, and they requested producers to apply for certification before selling them.

This program MICON established intends that private producers learn about the norms for each product which will enable the population to build lasting and resistant housing.

MICONS will evaluate regularly their productions to keep updated its database on output and quality, said Zamora.(ACN)
