2011.07.07 - 14:02:43 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Matanzas, Cuba.- The Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) is reducing its staff in the western province of Matanzas on the bases of rationality, taking into account its needs for every season, in the search for more efficiency.

According to the weekly journal Giron, a representative of MINTUR in the province, Amado Acosta, affirmed that the present pay rolls respond to the needs of low season and that seasonal employment covers the demands during high season.

Acosta pointed out that this policy is applied all over the world because it offers the possibility to make a better use of the workforce and financial resources.

He noted that economic benefits will be observed with the conclusion of this ongoing process.

Yet, there are tourist facilities with permanent workers, and even though the relocation stage is over, they maintain working links with these centers as they still receive part of their wages.

Acosta explained that by the end of the first semester of 2011, there was a 12% increase in the monetary income and a 23% in utilities; costs and expenses decreased and 16% of the planned expenditures as energy carrier was saved.

He recalled that hotel facilities in Varadero represent 36% of Cuba’s and stated that they are carrying out investments in Villa Punta Arenas and other hotels to renovate them and expand them.
