2011.07.02 - 11:47:56 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Havana, Cuba.- Havana’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) markets its products and services in 40 countries, as informed in this capital during a meeting to mark the 25th anniversary of the institution.

The CIGB’s deputy director general, Francisco Machado, explained that medicament sales are based on a quality system to meet the demands of clients, in terms of human health, agricultural and livestock productions, aquiculture and the environment.

In particular, he mentioned the existence of its leading preparation, Heberprot-P, known internationally for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and that, in a short period of time, at the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela only, more than 1,000 patients have received its benefits.

Attending the meeting at the CIGB, one of the centers of west Havana’s scientific area, were Melba Hernandez, Heroine of the attack on the Moncada Garrison in 1953; Jose Ramon Fernandez, vice-president of the Council of Ministers; and other guests.

Jose Miyar Barrueco, Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, recalled in a speech that the existence of socialist entities of high added value is due to the educational work and the scientific-technical development achieved on the Caribbean island.

The CIGB was inaugurated by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on July 1st, 1986.

In this regard, Miyar Barrueco highlighted the validity of the strategy of the revolutionary leader in its creation, taking as a starting point the importance of workers, the need to link science to production and the economy, and their integration to the investigation-production cycle. (ACN)
