MATANZAS, Cuba.- The San Francisco Girls Chorus, from the United States, will perform for the first time in Cuba, in the cities of Santa Clara, Matanzas and Havana, as a continuity of the program of cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Presentations have been scheduled for July 5, 6, and 8, said in an exclusive interview with ACN via the Internet Carlos Dahl, director for trips of international orchestras and choirs, who added that it’s a privilege to share the stages with Cuban choral groups.

Directed by Susan McMane, the vocal ensemble was founded in 1978. It’s made up of children and youngsters from between five and 18 years of age and will make its debut on the island at the Culture Center of the central city of Santa Clara, along with the professional choir of Villa Clara province.

On July 6, at the Gener y del Monte Library of this city of rivers ands bridges, it will share the stage with the chorus directed by Doctor Jose Antonio Mendez, and on July 8 it will perform at the San Felipe Neri Oratory in Old Havana.

Mendez commented that this year they have already shared the stage with other US choruses of the universities of Yale and Michigan and carried out fruitful workshops reaffirming interpretative, artistic and professional quality.

The San Francisco Girls Chorus accumulates several prizes, like the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award, five Grammies and two prizes of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

This US choir represented its country at the 2010 World Vision International Children’s Choir Festival held in Seoul, South Korea, and at the 13th Beijing City Music Festival that took place at the Forbidden City Music Hall, in China. (ACN)
