Patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease in central Cuba are offered, without any cost, the hemodialysis, a first world treatment. The Nephrology room where these are performed has been valued in more than half a million pesos.

The 2004 born Joaquin Paneca Hospital, in Yaguajay, northern Sancti Spiritus, is the only facility outside the provincial capital counting on six artificial kidneys for patients requiring them in that municipality and in neighboring Caibarien.

Dialysis performed in the Nephrology Room are valued 100.00 dollars, while each artificial kidney was priced at $13 500 and a dialyzer may be obtained at $20.00.

4200 hemodialysis were performed last year and, as for 2011, more than 1500 have been done.
