2011.06.22 - 13:12:46 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu.HAVANA, CUBA.-  The president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Glendon Harris, announced that plans are well advanced for Jamaican farmers to visit Cuba, where they would receive special training in the manufacture of organic fertilizer.

Speaking at the St. James Association of Branch Societies’ Annual General Meeting, at the St. John’s Methodist Church, in Montego Bay, Harris said that the initiative was made possible thanks to a partnership between the JAS and the Cuban Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).

“We have a Memorandum of Understanding, and I will be going to Cuba, in September or October, to firm up agreements, so that farmers from Jamaica can go to Cuba on special training programs,” he said.

The JAS president added that the training programs aim at assisting them to drastically reduce the cost of fertilizer and chemicals, making their farming activities more affordable and profitable.
