2011.06.20 - 13:58:05 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Cuban Comptroller: Managers and Staff Must Look After Internal Control. HAVANA, CUBA.-  Cuban General Comptroller Gladys Bejerano Portela told Trabajadores that both the management board and the staff are responsible for maintaining the control of the enterprise.

In an interview with the weekly newspaper, Bejerano Portela, who is also vice president of the Council of State, recognized that most of the people holding administrative posts are hard-workers and have taken on the leadership of the enterprise in difficult times, but, she noted that they usually lack training and skills to run a business and are influenced by bad practices such as “producing no matter the means and costs” being the main target.

The official said that numbers are important for the progress and development of the country, but admitted that quality and good results are also vital.

Bejerano Portela said the Comptroller’s General Office has detected cases in which people have lost their values and failed to fulfill their duties in order to benefit themselves. Meanwhile, she noted that there have been enterprises boasting high production levels; however, they have shown irregularities due to the lack of control.

The official stressed that education and training concerning these issues are relevant not only to the administrative board, which carries the highest responsibilities, but also to the whole staff.

In relation to the role of the General Comptroller’s Office in the process of updating the Cuban economic model, Bejerano Portela said its mission is to look after the preservation of the country’s resources by contributing to achieving efficient economic and administrative management and preventing corruption and illegalities.
