By: Estela McCollin Mexico, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican states of Colima, Guerrero and Michoacan issued hurricane warnings due to the proximity of Tropical Storm Beatriz, which could become the first hurricane of the season in the Pacific on Monday.

Melchor Ursua Quiroz, director of Colima's Civilian Protection System, said Beatriz brought heavy showers to the region.

The storm is now 300 kilometers south of Acapulco and 460 kilometers southwest of Michoacan, with maximum winds of 65 kph.

The storm also provokes strong waves and choppy seas in Colima and is expected to become more intense in the coming hours.

The Navy Secretariat (Semar) also warned that the second tropical storm of season in the Pacific could hit the coasts of Colima and Michoacan states as a hurricane this afternoon.

The rains and powerful winds of Beatriz led to hurricane alerts being declared from Tecpan de Galeana in Guerrero state to Manzanillo in Colima, and including all of southern Michoacan.

Authorities expect 17 tropical cyclone during the 2011 storm season, and 14 could hit Mexico in different stages, as tropical depressions, storms or hurricanes.
