Unlike during their first encounters in Week One, when they split the two-game series, the Cubans now showed their superiority led by attackers Wilfredo Leon and Henry Bell, who accumulated 16 points apiece. The South Korean attack was led by Punk-Suk Shin (14) and Kwang-In Jeon (13).

Also in Pool D, on Friday, France not only took their first win of the contest but also ended Italy’s unbeaten record with a 3-1 victory as visitors in Messina.

In spite of the loss, the Italians still lead the group with 16 units, now followed by Cuba (12), South Korea (10) and France (4).

France and Italy face each other in Catania on Saturday while Cuba and South Korea play their last match of the preliminary round on Sunday in Gwangju.
