2011.06.10 - 15:08:09 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. HAVANA, CUBA.-  The Cuban Business Company Cubaniquel is making investments that will increase productions, improve efficiency, and reduce the negative environmental impact of this industry, one of the most important in Cuba.

The construction of the Central Diesel Electric, in Moa, in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin, is 40 days ahead scheduled. This Central will supply services to new Nickel-Iron Plant, still under engineering and soil movement works.  

The works for the setting up of the bases for ten electric power generators and the installation of fuel deposits have already concluded in the Central. Besides, works are also ahead of schedule in the construction of access ways and socio-administrative facilities.  

In the meantime, in the production plant Commander Ernesto Che Guevarra, in Moa as well, the construction and assembly of a sulfur-drying plant is scheduled for July.

The director of investments of Cubaniquel, Gabriel Navarro Tabera, explained to Granma newspaper that this new facility will eliminate the inconveniences of a solar drying plant for the inhabitants of Moa, mostly in the neighborhood of Punta Gorda.

In the power station of the Commander Ernesto Che Guevara production plant, a new turbo generator will be operational in December in order to guarantee the self-supply of electricity.  

Navarro talked about the reliability in the transport of fuel and chemical substances used in this industry and the imminent reconstruction of the liquid loading dock of the Puerto Moa Enterprise, where new docking mechanisms will be put into practice to increase the production rhythm.

Nickel is a metallic mineral very important for the Cuban economy and constitutes one of the main sources of income by exports. The main exploitation area is in the north-eastern region of Cuba. (ACN)
