6:16 AM. By: Glenn Glazer By: Glenn Glazer. A large area of low pressure in the Caribbean continues to produce showers and thunderstorms over Jamaica, eastern Cuba, and Haiti.

The National Hurricane Center has left this disturbance at a 40% chance of development over the next 48 hours.

Because it has not shown more signs of organization since Sunday, the hurricane hunter flight for today has been canceled.

Another flight has been scheduled for tomorrow.

It appears the upper level winds will become less favorable for development by Wednesday and Thursday, but more favorable again after that.

The disturbance, at this time, does not appear to be a danger to our area... in fact it could be beneficial. If this disturbance moves up into the Gulf of Mexico as we head into the weekend, the associated rainfall could swing up into South Florida.

Some computer models have the disturbance moving east of our area, and if that happens we would end up staying dry Saturday and Sunday.
