As it is said in the book Climatología de las tormentas locales severas de Cuba: cronología (Climatology of severe local storms in Cuba: chronology), although the likelihood differs from one location to another or even within the same area, no Cuban region can be considered as possibly unaffected.

According to investigations carried out in the island, severe local storms are mostly developed in the afternoon, between 15:00 and 18:00 hours. They are most frequent in plain areas away from the coasts.

Tornados are considered very harmful storms that develop in the lines of thunderstorms which precede certain cold fronts. Some other storms are connected to tropical cyclones that can affect any region in the island.
