Secretary of the commissions, Daisy Tourne, said that in spite of cultural differences in the area, many problems related to those issues affect the whole continent.

She said other issues discussed in the two-day meeting scheduled to end on Friday, May 27, include youth, unequal distribution of wealth and the search for joint actions to improve peoples' quality of life.

Another issue in the agenda is cooperativism in all its varieties in order to promote development.

She referred to the food crisis, and said many sectors in Latin America, mainly the most vulnerable, still suffer from hunger.

She thanked Cuba for its cordiality and assistance and urged all participants to revive Parlatino and make it become an institution full of the parliamentarians' ideas, regardless of their differences, so that at the end of this meeting we can have conclusions that could be useful for implementing projects in different countries.

Nations present in the meeting include Argentina, Bolivia, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, among others.
