May 26, 2011. An agreement has been reached between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Republic of Cuba for the provision of four specialist engineers to work with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

During a meeting on Tuesday in Cuba, Minister of Public Works and Transport the Honourable Trevor Walker and his Cuban counterpart the Honourable Rene Perez Villafaña commenced discussions on the arrangements for the arrival of the experts.
 
Minister Walker says the relationship between Antigua and Cuba has proven beneficial for both nations.  He says that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport will continue collaborating with Cuba’s construction ministry in an effort to further develop the construction sector here.  It was noted that the aim is to draw on the expertise and training of the Cubans in ensuring a strong construction sector here over time.  

Cuba´s Construction Minister Rene Perez Villafaña says that he was delighted that his ministry could host a meeting with the Antigua and Barbuda delegation visiting Cuba and said he looks forward to continued fruitful relations and further discussions with Antigua and Barbuda.

 Meantime Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable W. Baldwin Spencer says he is pleased with the cooperation that has been achieved and said a commitment to reciprocate and deepen the level of collaboration is critical to the continued development of both countries.

The terms of the agreement will be worked out shortly and the four specialists are expected to arrive in Antigua in a few months time.
