HAVANA, CUBA.- Cuban hammer thrower Yipsi Moreno won the gold medal at the Caixa Athletics Grand Prix that took place on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in the process remained undefeated in a series of track and field meetings in that South American nation.

The Cuban 2008 silver Olympic medalist registered 74.26 meters and continued improving her results as she relegated Argentinean Jennifer Dahlgren (72.26m) and German Kathrin Klaas (71.44m) to the second and third spots, respectively.

Previously, Moreno had won titles in the Grand Prix of Uberlandia, with 72.89 meters, and in Sao Paulo, with 71.93.

Also on Thursday, in the men’s Hammer Throw event, Cuban Roberto Janet placed third with 73.37m, in a competition won by American Kitwe Johnson (77.42m).

Cuba won two more crowns with Wilfredo Martinez, who topped the podium in the men’s Long Jump with 8.04m, and with triple jumper Osniel Tosca (16.95m). In this event, Cuban Yoandri Betanzos was second with 16.93m.

Other Cuban medalists were Yariana Martinez (14.25m, silver, women’s Triple Jump), Dialenys Alcantara (14.01m, bronze, women’s Triple Jump), and Yarisley Silva (4.60m, silver, women’s Pole Vault). (ACN)
