With this selection, the jury acknowledged the work of an artist that has participated in over twenty films throughout her successful career, who will receive the prize during a gala in June.

The jury was presided over by editor Nelson Rodriguez, winner of the 2007 National Cinema Prize, and was made up by directors Victor Casaus and Lester Hamlet; sound engineer Jose Galino; researcher and professor Mario Piedra; and Martha Diaz, Dean of the Faculty of Audiovisual Media of the Institute of Higher Arts.

The actress was discovered in 1963 by French director Armand Gatti with the film “El otro Cristobal”, and movie lovers remember her excellent performances in films like “Memorias del subdesarrollo,” “Lucia,” “Amada,” “La primera carga al machete”, “Mujer transparente” and more recently, “La pared” and “El viajero inmovil”.

Two directors have been vital for her career in cinema: Humberto Solas and her husband, Manuel Herrera. She has also performed in Cuban theater and television and in cinema in other countries.

Eslinda Nunez has been –in turn- a member of panels of judges in national and international competitions, like the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the former Czechoslovakia; the International Film Festival of Huelva, Spain; and the Jose Antonio Ramos Theater Performance Contest; and president of the jury of acting of the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists’ Caracol Festival.
