The Cuban Leo Brouwer attended the First Guitar festival, that carries his name, in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, informed here the office of the musician, who is considered an icon of that instrument.

A press note indicated that this cultural event included an award to the best performer of the work made by the winner of the Iberian – American Tomas Luis de Victoria music award. Likewise, two concerts were dedicated to his creations.

The Camerata UABC, with the guitar player and director Carlos Patiño offered the first concert. It include Beatlerianas, Sonatas de Baja California and Concierto Elegíaco.

The second day was named Brouwer en el flamenco (Brouwer in flamenco) and the Cuban Josué Tacoronte recreated El Decamerón negro, Estudios sencillos and Danza característica.

According to the festival web page, International famous artists, seduced by the name of Brouwer, took part in the concert.

Among them, it is worth mentioning the US Pavel Steidl, who is considered one of the best performers of classic pieces in the world, as well as his fellow countryman Gary Hoey.

Mexico was represented by the virtuous Gilberto Puentes, Abel García and the Los Tres Reyes group, while Cuba was represented by Tacoronte, who is a specialist in flamenco guitar.

With this initiative Ensenada, joins a number of cities in different continents who dedicate awards and festivals to the music of guitar living legends.

The guitar festival Andrés Segovia in Granada, Spain, gives the Leo Brower Award and the Festival of Camera music organized at the Havana Historic Centre by the Office of the creator of La Espiral eternal, gives an award that carries this name.

Sao Paulo, Brazil, also pays tribute and highlights the big catalog of the artist at the Violao festival.

Different musical institutions and groups carry his name, such as B3: Brouwer Trio of Valencia, The Leo Brouwer Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Cordoba, both in Spain and the Brouwer Guitar Qaurtet, in the United States.
