Visitor number rising at two-digit rates


The number of visitors to Cuba rose a hefty 11.9 percent during the first four months of the year, according to official statistics.

Nearly 1,180,000 people traveled to the island from January through April, the Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas (ONE) reported, making for a 11.9-percent increase compared to the same period last year. The data did not include revenue figures.

Current projections are for 2.7 million tourists for 2011.

In April, visitor numbers were up 13.4 percent, according to ONE.
