2011.05.22 - 12:33:20 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Santiago De Cuba, Cuba.- Cuba is the most represented Caribbean nation in the Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage project of the Technical University of Valencia, Spain, which brings together over 2,500 members from around the world -specialists of various disciplines and professors and students of higher educational centers from 125 nations.

In an exclusive interview with ACN, its director, Isabel Tort Ausina, highlighted the cooperation existing between her center and several Cuban institutions, like the Havana City Historian Office, the San Geronimo Collage, also in the capital, and the University of Oriente.

With regard to the latter, she said, there’s an exchange of students and professors, and cited as an example the sending to Santiago de Cuba of students from the Technical University of Valencia to perform their theses in this city.

In addition, they co-sponsor, with that center, the International Meeting “City, Image and Memory,” the 7th edition of which has just concluded in Santiago de Cuba, dedicated to the topic “Heritage and Vulnerability.”

The Forum was created in 1995 with the objective of setting up a network of specialists that could be in contact and participated in different inter-university proposals, with the signing of an agreement between the Technical University of Valencia and UNESCO, by way of the World Heritage Center.

These proposals are aimed at carrying out joint actions to promote the preservation of heritage, with projects contributing to improve restoration, preservation and the promotion of their values for a better knowledge of society.

With respect to the presence of students, it’s vital, she said, since we have a lot to tell and teach to professionals-to-be, so they become aware of the importance of preserving heritage, which is of inestimable value, concluded Isabel Tort Ausina. (ACN)
