Moreno, also a world runner-up in Berlin 2009, achieved that record in her first attempt, and broke her previous benchmark for this type of competition (70.50 meters) which was established on May 6, 2007 in the same South American city, the event’s Web site reported.

Following Moreno were Argentinean Jennifer Dahlgren (70.57) and Arasay Thondike (CUB-69.76), while Ariani Vichy (CUB-65.07) ended seventh.

In the same specialty for men, Roberto Janet (CUB) was far from his best record and finished fourth with 72.74 meters, an event won by US athlete Kitwe Johnson (80.09).

In his third attempt, triple jumper Osniel Tosca (CUB) managed a leap of 16.66 meters, enough to be at the top of the podium, followed by locals Jefferson Sabino (16.37) and Jonathan Henrique Silva (16.22), while David Giralt ended seventh (15.77).

Attending the Brazilian competition were 153 athletes (72 men and 81 women), representing 24 nations.
