2011.05.19 - 22:01:33 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Havana, Cuba.- Over 50 entrepreneurs and representatives of financial institutions participated on Wednesday in the British capital in a seminar on business opportunities in Cuba, organized by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCL).

The event, co-sponsored by the Cuba Initiative in cooperation with the Caribbean island’s embassy to the European nation and the British mission to Havana, assessed the prospects for trade and foreign investment, in the light of the process of updating of the Cuban economic model.

David Ridgway, director of the Cuba Studies Trust and former ambassador of the United Kingdom to Havana, acted as facilitator of the Seminar, during which Esther Armenteros and Dianna Melrose, ambassadors of Cuba to London and the United Kingdom to Havana, respectively, addressed participants, the www.cubaminrex.cu Web site reported.

The two diplomats pointed out the importance of these meetings, the tasks of entrepreneurs and other exchanges organized over the last few months by the Cuba Initiative and the business offices for the strengthening of trade and business relations.

Likewise, they expressed the willingness of the two countries to work for the improvement of bilateral economic and commercial relations.

In this regard, they cited, as an example, the presentation of a pavilion of the United Kingdom at the International Trade Fair to be held in Havana in November, after several years of not having a large British exhibition in that event.

The greatest success of the Cuba Initiative, created in l996, has been the interest of and possibilities opened to British business people, as well as the development of constructive relations with the Caribbean island and the increase of bonds in spheres like art, culture and sports.

This was highlighted in Havana by its co-president, Lord Colin Berkeley Moyniham, during his visit in May, 2003, heading a delegation of entrepreneurs.(ACN)
