2011.05.17 - 21:28:14 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Santiago De Cuba, Cuba.- Argentinean singer-songwriter Federico Pecchia is in this eastern Cuban city to participate in Cubadisco, Cuba’s International annual record fair and contest, accompanied by his guitar and the music of Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes as referents.

I’m happy to be on this island, for the influence of its history and cultural values and for what it represents for the development of social struggles in Latin American, the music and composer told the ACN.

At the legendary Trova center of this city, the Mecca of Cuban minstrels, the young artist of the locality of Escobar from the province of Buenos Aires, interpreted tangos and other genres of Argentinean folklore, in the first of his presentations scheduled as part of the event.

I write about my country and about some social topics I don’t agree with or question; in addition, I also sing to universal subjects, like love, he said.

I was given a beautiful reception by people here in Santiago de Cuba, commented Pecchia, while talking about the pieces he interpreted from his first CD, Paisaje interno.

The winner of the Pre Cosquin 2010 competition in the category of instrumental soloist, the Argentinean also makes versions of classic pieces by Argentinean composers.

Pecchia commented that he has been listening to Cubans Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes since he was a child, and confessed that they’re the referents of his way of composing and thinking about music, although he also knows and admires the work of the Buena Vista Social Club.

At present, he’s preparing his second album, which will include tangos, huaynos (traditional Andean song-dance), chacareras (South American folk dance), ballads and other Latin American rhythms.

During Cubadisco, this year dedicated to the son rhythm, the visiting artist will perform in several localities of this city, and later –after the festival- will meet in Havana with young Cuban troubadours at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center. (ACN)
