2011.05.16 - 16:45:34 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. HAVANA, Cuba. - The Cuban teams that are taking part in the fifth North, Central America and the Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Circuit, won silver and bronze medals, in the phase held in Chiapas, Mexico.

The Cuban duet Imara Estevez and Onayami Sinal had to do with the silver medal after the American duet Brook Sweat and Kristen Batt defeated them in two sets (21-19 and 21-18).  

According to NORCECA website, the Cuban women’s team won 2-0 (21-14 and 24-22) over Costa Ricans Natalia Alfaro and Ingrid Morales; whereas the Mexican duet Martha Revuelta and Vanessa Virgen secured a bronze medal over Costa Ricans 2-0 (21-14 and 21-19).  

The Cuban men’s duet made up by Karen Peña and Yadrian Escobar defeated the Canadian duet Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Cameron Wheelan 2-0 (21-10 y 21-8) for the bronze medal.

Peña and Escobar had been previously defeated 1-3 (15-21, 21-18 and 8-21) by Mexicans Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen, who outdid Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Christopher Underwood 2-0 (26-24 y 21-10).

Cuban beach volleyball coordinator Mireya Luis confirmed the Jit weekly magazine that Cuba already classified for the Pan-American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Luis added that the Cuban teams are participating in this circuit with several players, in order to define later on the couples that will travel to Guadalajara. (ACN)
