By JR / radioangulo.icrt.cu / Saturday, 14 May 2011 12:47. Silvio Rodriguez Dominguez, a founder of the New Song in Cuba and Latin America, refuses to become a star and goes on singing to the people living in the communities in Havana. Singer and songwriter Silvio Rodriguez keeps on singing to the people living in the communities located in the outskirts of Havana city, who sometimes feel away from the main cultural centers of the Cuban capital.

Amid a constant hard work, Silvio Rodriguez posts in Zurron del aprendiz, his recently released website (www.zurrondelaprendiz.com and, to access through the intranet, www.zurrondelaprendiz.cult.cu), the new dates of his tour through different Havana's neighborhoods.

The upcoming performance will take place on Friday May 13th at 19:00 at Lugardita, Boyeros. Other performances will be carried out on Sunday May 15th at 18:00 in Romerillo, Playa. Then, on Friday may 20th he will offer his music to the neighbors of Santa Maria del Rosario, Cotorro. On Sunday May 22nd, he will perform in El Fanguito, Plaza.

As usual, the singer-songwriter is being accompanied by flutist Niurka Gonzalez, drummer Oliver Valdes, and the trio Trovarroco, among other artists and writers.

"I've been saying it since September last year, when we started in La Corbata: we're touring the neighborhoods that need us most, the most disadvantaged in our capital. They are also called marginal, but I do not like to say so. We are always welcomed by educated children, wearing shoes, with small schools, and houses of the family doctor. There are hard workers and decent families, but there are also violent people. We sing for everyone. Music makes a ceasefire. And the neighborhood becomes a family, together, smiling, applauding themselves," wrote Silvio in blog Segunda Cita. (Translated by cubasi.cu)
