2011.05.12 - 08:55:32 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. HAVANA, Cuba.- A new version of the famous Italian story Pinocchio, written by Cuban playwright Norge Espinosa for the Teatro de las Estaciones de Matanzas Company, will participate in the 31st International Puppet Festival of Seville, Spain.

The puppet group’s promotion office informed that the plot centers on a wooden toy that dreams about having a theater but that his father, Geppeto, and the fairy, have other plans for him.

“Pinocchio, a heart of wood” is the title of the play, which is about a boy created in the first decade of the 21st century, who faces the technological and media advances of today’s world with lots of questions.

The staging of the play is the result of a project of Teatro de las Estaciones with other theater companies, and it’s sponsored by institutions like the Provincial Council of Performing Arts of the western Cuban province of Matanzas, the European Union office on the island, and the Spanish embassy to Havana, among others.

The team that created the play is composed of composer Elvira Santiago, choreographer Liliam Padron, and designer Zenen Calero, all of them directed by Ruben Dario Salazar.

The Teatro de las Estaciones Company will participate for the third time in the Seville Festival, on this occasion with a version of the original story by Carlo Collodi, as a tribute to the cinematographic universe and music of the 1960s, among other cultural referents that will enrich the adventures of the wooden puppet.  (ACN)
