Santiago shipyard launches vessel

The Damex Shipbuilding & Engineering shipyard in Santiago — one of the few fully foreign-owned operations in Cuba — finished assembling a 600-ton multi-purpose cargo vessel that will be used by the Venezuelan navy, Prensa Latina reported.

The Damen Stan Lander 5612 is the first of four similar ships the shipyard in Cuba is assembling for Venezuela through 2013, under the ALBA trade and integration agreement. Damex has already delivered two tug boats to Venezuela, and is scheduled to build two patrol boats.Damen Stan Lander 5612
