The Minister of Tourism of Mexico, Gloria Guevara, said in a news conference at the Cuban Hotel Nacional, that her Government is very grateful for being the guest of honor of the 31st International Tourism Fair (FIT Cuba 2011), in which over 30 nations are participating.

According to Granma newspaper Guevara said that “This gesture shows the close relationship between the two countries, as well as the will to strengthen our cooperation,” and added that her country is one of Cuba’s top 10 trading partners now.

Mexico is working with Cuba in a multi-destination tourism project, which is to create packages that include trips to places of interest of both nations, with an eye toward the European and Asian markets mainly.

In addition, Guevara said her country is interested to learn from Cuba's experiences on health tourism, an area where it has a vast experience.

Mexico is currently at number 10 in terms of attracting tourists in the world and this market generates 2.5 million direct jobs and over 5 million indirectly.

The 2011 was declared the "Year of Tourism in Mexico", which with the country intends to place by 2018 as the fifth market to attract visitors, generate more jobs and revenues for over 40 billion dollars annually.
