Pinar managers raises again the Cuban baseball trophy.A young and spirited team led Pinar del Rio to become a national champion in Cuban baseball after 13 years. Managed by the same man who made them winners in 1998, the Tobacco Growers beat Ciego de Avila in the 6th game with final score 6-1 in Tigers headquarters.

Right-handed starter Yosvani Torres was the hero of the game as he allowed only one run in the second inning where Tigers manager to shoot 4 consecutive hits. Pinar’s hurler declared that he gained trust in that very moment after he got the three outs when Ciego had planned to eat them alive with the house full and no outs.

Tobacco Growers responded the attack by scoring 3 runs on the third, forced by a fatal error of Tigers catcher Lisdey Diaz and further complications Ciego’s starter, Vladimir Garcia, got himself into.

Pinar del Rio added one more in the 4th chapter and the decisive on the 8th by David Castillo’s homer with Leon on first base.

The “Big Final”, as it was known here, was highly emotive and extremely fought. Both teams could be champs but the Western region managed to maintain the supremacy at the last moments.
