Cuba in Pan-American Karate Tourney

25 de abril de 2011, 12:28Havana, Apr. 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will participate in the 2011 Pan-American Karate Championships May 22-29 in Guadalajara, Mexico, Granma newspaper reported.

The women's team is headed by the outstanding Yaneya Gutierrez (68 kg+), and includes Yudelmis Báez (-50), Yanelsis Góngora (-55), Cirelis Martinez (-61) and Yoandra Moreno (-68).

The men's team includes Listmar Licea (-60), Lester Javier Zamora (-75), Jander Guillermo Tiril (+84) and brothers Dennis (-67) and Damian Novo (-84).

According to Cuban head coach Francisco Garcia, the main goal is for the whole team to classify for the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Oct. 14-30.

It will be tough, because the tournament provides two slots per division (the two finalists), and the reigon boasts several world champions who will be looking to qualify during this tournament, Garcia said.
