More than 1,000 people from almost 50 countries will accompany the Cuban people in marches nationwide on May Day, International Workers Day.

Demands that will be heard during those marches include the immediate release of the five Cuban antiterrorists held in U.S. prisons for more than 12 years, said Ermela Garcia, member of the National Secretariat of the Central Organization of Cuban Workers, in statements to Juventud Rebelde newspaper.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene González were arrested in Miami in September 1998 after infiltrating organizations based in that city planning violence against Cuba.

May Day march organizers said the event would also back the economic and social policies recently approved by the 6th Congress of the Communist Party in Cuba, which met this past week in Havana.

In Havana, the parade will be led by the education workers's union, and the final bloc of marchers will be made up of young people.
