2011.04.22 - 21:52:01 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu. HAVANA, Cuba. -Prima ballerina Viengsay Valdes was invited to dance on Friday as the guest of honor of the 11th International Ballet Festival of the Mariinsky Theater, to give in Saint Petersburg a Cuban brushstroke to the piece Carmen.

On the previous occasion, in 2009, I danced Don Quixote, and my debut in the role of Carmen -one of my favorites, now in the Russian version- will be on Sunday, the famous Cuban dancer told the Prensa Latina news agency.

Carmen has not been performed in Cuba for almost 10 years now, not even by Cuban artists, so dancing this ballet in the centennial of the Mariinski Theater, with a live orchestra, will be very exiting for me, she stated.

Valdes announced that the BNC will tour several US cities in June, like New York, Washington and Los Angeles –for the first time since 2003- and that she has several galas scheduled, as well as the company’s tour of Spain, thus describing 2011 as a very busy year for her.

She commented that she has made some incursions into the world of ideos clips, with the Cuban duo Buena Fe, and that her return to Havana on April 29 will coincide with the premiere of the latest work of late Rufo Caballero. It will be a video clip called Sobre tus ojos (On Your Eyes), with the music by Polito Ibañez, choreographed by Tania Vergara, added Valdés.(ACN)
