Maria de los Angeles Sanchez, director of the Cuban Office for Patent Rights, said that over 1,000 inventions in all branches of science and technology, coming from some 45 nations, were presented during the event, considered to be one of the most prestigious of its kind in the world, the Granma newspaper reported on Friday.

Developed by researchers from Havana’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in cooperation with the National Institute of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, this injectable medicament includes epidemic growth factor and has proved to be notably efficient in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, since it reduces the number of amputations of the lower limbs and the risk of complications like gangrene.

Used by more than 100 institutions of the national health system, Heberprot-P favors the regeneration of damaged tissue and a fast cicatrization of lesions, in addition to the improvement of the quality of life of patients.

According to Maria de los Angeles, the medicament is registered in over 15 countries, and due to its favorable results it become one of the leading products of the island’s biotechnological industry.(ACN)
