Cuban Cyclists in Tours of Uruguay and Martinique.HAVANA, CUBA.- Cuba will participate in the 68th edition of the Cycling Tour of Uruguay on April15, with a squad made up by route, mountain and track specialists, who will be directed by technical trainer Joel Gallego.

The Cuban sextet, now at the event’s venue, is composed of Juan Carlos Romeu, Jorge J. Rojas, Noslen Funes, Racso Gonzalez, Rainer Vazquez and Yoandri Tousent, the Jit Web site reported.  They will be backed in their performance by mechanic Elio Martinez and physical therapist Carlos Reinoso, in a competition that will have 10 legs, one individual race against the clock, 19 mountain prizes and 20 flying finishes.

Attending the cycling tour of the elite and under-23 categories, in addition to Cubans and hosts, will be representatives from Colombia -with Boyaca, Pride of The Americas-, Spain, Italy, the United States, Peru, Argentina and Chile, according to the event’s official Web site.

On the other hand, five cyclists will participate in the Caribbean Trophy Tour in Martinique from April 20th through the 24th, headed by Lizardo Benitez and Vicente Sanabria, who obtained their tickets for the 16th Pan-American Games of Guadalajara, Mexico, a week ago.

Completing the Cuban delegation are Agustín Martinez, Yoandi Freire and Rafael Arrate, accompanied by trainer Alfredo Lopez and mechanic Nelson Socorro.

Presently training in Cuba are the main figures of track and route of both sexes, with a view to the elite Pan-American Championship slated for Medellin, Colombia, from May 1st through the 8th, the Cubavision Internacional Web site reported.
