HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 11 (acn) The Cuban medicament Heberprot-P for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer received in Geneva, Switzerland the prize to the Best Young Inventor by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Prensa Latina reported that the Cuban biopharmaceutical product wasawarded during the 39th International Inventions Fair showcasing more than 1,000 innovations from 45 countries.

Developed by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center of Cuba,Heberprot recently received WIPO's Gold Medal, on March.

Based on the recombinant human growth factor by direct infiltration on lesions the Cuban product speeds up the cicatrisation of diabetic foot ulcers, thus reducing the risks of amputation.

According to a report by Granma newspaper highlighting the importance of the Cuban product, Dr. Jorge Berlanga Acosta, on behalf of the team of 12 scientists who carried out the study, reiterated their commitment to eradicate the DFU which leads to an amputation every 30 seconds worldwide.
