Havana, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Sunday is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first daycare centers, focused on strengthening children's intellectual and motor skills.

On April 10, 1961, the Camilo Cienfuegos, Fulgencio Oroz and Crio Frias institutions began providing daycare services for children under the age of five during working hours, ensuring the full integration of women into work or study.

Those centers emerged as part of an effort by the president of the Federation of Cuban Women at the time, Vilma Espin.

Today, childcare centers exercise and strengthen children's skills for their integral education, and have been the perfect space to start instilling civic habits and moral values.

Cuba has opened over 1,000 centers of this kind throughout the country, where children learn different skill to prepare to move ahead in education and in society.
