By: Raquel Maria Garcia Alvarez. Baku, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto Jimenez met with the president of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan, Anar Rzayev, at the union headquarters in Baku, according to diplomatic sources.

The organization was created in 1934, and has 1,500 members and chapters in Russia and Georgia.

Anar highlighted the strong relations between Azerbaijan and Cuba in the political, economic and cultural fields.

The host also referred to works on Cuba, mainly on figures like Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, by local writers and published in this country.

During their meeting, the Cuban official proposed selecting anthologies of stories and poems by Azerbaijani authors to translate into Spanish and present at the International Book Fair in Havana.

Prieto took the opportunity to explain in detail preparations carried out in Cuba for the 6th Congress of the Communist Party to be held this month, an event he described as momentous and encouraging for the Cuban people.

The congress will be held at a time of great economic tension, with the U.S. blockade still intact and the effects of the world financial crisis, he said.

The Cuban minister, who is attending in this capital the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, gave an interview for "Okno" (Window) magazine, the official publication of the Azerbaijani Culture Ministry.
