2011.04.09 - 14:18:03 /radiorebelde.icrt.cu. Havana to Host International Meeting of Ballet Academies. Havana, Cuba.- The participation of representatives from 12 nations in the 18th International Meeting of Ballet Academies, to be held in Havana from April 16th through the 30th, is backed by the prestige achieved in Latin America by Cuba’s National Ballet School.

Ramona de Saa, director of the center and president of the event’s Organizing Committee, said that the number of students, professors and other specialists showing interest in this meeting, which includes keynote lectures, workshops artistic presentations and exhibitions, is increasingly larger.

She specified that on this occasion the event will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the creation in this capital of the Alejo Carpentier Elementary Ballet School, the students of which will have an important presence in the inaugural gala, scheduled for the Garcia Lorca Hall of Havana’s Grand Theater.

She announced that several presentations will be made to pay tribute to the Jose Marti Pioneer Children’s Organization, the 540th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), and Havana’s Casa de las Americas cultural institution, and to celebrate the 70th birthday of professor Loipa Araujo, one of the four jewels of Cuba’s National Ballet Company.

She mentioned, among the foreign personalities that will add luster to the event, Carlos Paulillo, from Venezuela’s University of Experimental Arts; Tatiana Izquierdo, director of the Peruvian Dance Company, and Romen Rachev, professor with UNEARTE and professor of ballet at Endanza and the foundation Ballet of The Americas.

Dance history, psychology and pedagogy related to ballet, physical training as an alternative to prepare students, and acting for dancers, are some of the topics participants will tackle in the theoretical sessions programmed, to which over 300 people have confirmed their attendance.

De Saa pointed out that the 3rd National Ballet Contest, to be held from April 26th through the 30th, will be an excellent opportunity to present some of the best creations of the country’s academies.(ACN)
