By: Ileana Ferrer Fonte.Havana, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) Alternatives for the extraction of nickel and cobalt, as well as geophysical characteristics of susceptible exploration zones, are some of the issues for debate Friday at the Cuban Geosciences 2011 Convention.

The use of resin as an alternative for the extraction of nickel and cobalt in pulps with poor settling properties will also be analyzed during the last session of the Fourth Cuban Earth Sciences Convention "Geosciences 2011."

Other issues are the geophysical characteristics in the Roblote area in the eastern basin of Venezuela, and the magnetic susceptibility of bottom sediments as a support to the geological cartography in eastern Cuba.

Professionals from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, the United States, Canada and Australia are attending Geosciences 2011.

The 8th Cuban Congress on Geology, the 5th Cuban Geophysics Congress, the 3rd Cuban Mining Congress, the 3rd Cuban Oil and Gas Congress, and the 10th Cuban Congress on Geographic Information Science "Geoinfo 2011," take place in the framework of the convention.

A service fair associated with geosciences is also being held in parallel with the meeting, at Havana's Conference Center.
